Lindsay Docherty Photography Best of 2011 Canvas Giveaway

Business

You know that sweet and syrupy holiday that’s coming up next week? The one with the flowers and hearts and naked babies with wings and candy and romance… Yeah, Valentine’s Day. It’s a day that’s been smashed over the head by Hallmark and Godiva but it’s still valuable. I like that we may have absolutely crazy lives filled with hectic jobs and unstable in-laws and teething babies and gassy dogs and home renovations and and and… but we have this arbitrary day that reminds us to make a concerted effort to stop and say, “Hey… I love you.” Maybe you do it all the time but some people need that reminder come February. You don’t need to get all extravagant but you can indulge a little, can’t you? My job puts me smack dab in the middle of love all year round and it’s pretty awesome.

I’m showing my love by holding a contest and giving away a totally free 20×30” gallery art canvas (a $569 value) to two lucky couples from 2011 and YOU get to decide who wins them. Last year’s contest was a resounding success and 2011 brought so many fantastic couples that I’ve had split this into two giveaways – one for engagement sessions and one for weddings.

I’ve posted pictures from the best of 2011’s couples on the Lindsay Docherty Photography Facebook page. Here’s how it’s gonna go down:

1. ‘Like’ LDP on Facebook.

The pictures are up on Facebook and ready for your votes. Already a fan? Awesome! Not yet? Get on it! You have to ‘Like’ Lindsay Docherty Photography in order to vote. Go here and click ‘Like’ at the top of the page.

2. ‘Like’ the image you want to win.

You can do whatever you want to get votes for your favorite image. Tell friends, tell family, tell complete strangers to vote for that picture. You can tag people. You can leave comments. You can do whatever it takes to make sure your chosen picture(s) wins. Choose one from engagements; choose one from weddings; choose multiple from each. Whatever your little heart desires.

3. Get your votes in by midnight on February 13th, 2012 EST.

This is simple. The image from each category with the most ‘likes’ will be made into an awesome 20×30” canvas print and mailed to the happy couples. An announcement will be made on Valentine’s Day.

Here are some of my favorite images from 2011 that you’ll see in the Engagements category:

[the value of] Fantastic Event Lighting
The other day I was talking to Becky over at Synergetic Sound + Lighting about my strong feelings towards additional lighting at weddings. I think it does more to a room than any other element. So she told me I should write up a post on it. So I did! Go check out Synergetic's blog to catch that post and see what they can do with lighting...Lighting is kind of a big deal for photographers. Scratch that, lighting is EVERYTHING. (Hello… the prefix “photo” means light.)Not only can lighting make or break the feel of your wedding, it can do the same for your wedding photography. It’s something that can transform and personalize a venue and ...

It should be no surprise that wedding and event professionals know how to throw one hell of a party. This was exactly the case at the NACE gala last night.NACE is the National Association for Catering and Events. Every year they host a beautiful, all-out shindig for people in the industry. This year it was held at the Radisson Valley Forge Casino Resort. The theme was Roaring 20s/prohibition era and the place was set up with amazing music, lights and décor. All of the professionals involved created a magnificent scene speakeasy-style. Think men in hats, women in boas, and lots of jazz.NACE President and owner of All About Events, Sarah ...

Philadelphia Event Photographer | Glen Foerd Mansion | ABC Meeting
I had the pleasure of photographing the Association of Bridal Consultants’ meeting at Glen Foerd Mansion last week. Phyllis Jablonowski of Eventricity Floral and Event Design gave an impressive presentation on tabletop planning and setup, instructing the group on an array of napkin folds, proper table setting and spacing, rules for centerpiece design for optimal flow and appeal, and so many more tidbits. It was the perfect size group for an event like this. Coordinators were asking questions, offering advice, and bringing up trends and concerns within the industry. I felt quite lucky to be let into the thought processes going on in the ro ...
