Family

If there is ever a question about whether or not you should do a cake smash for your child’s first birthday, the answer is a resounding yes!  But I’ll get to that soon.

First, let me show you some RIDICULOUSLY cute pictures of little one year old Bailey and her fabulous parents, Courtney and Ryan.  We met at Strawbridge Park where I first met Ryan for their engagement session about 3.5 years earlier.

It was pretty neat to be there with them as a family.

Bailey is a doll with such gorgeous eyes and always with a coordinating bow.  Always.

Did I forget to mention that Courtney was 7? 8? Months pregnant with Miles at the time and was running around with us like a total rockstar.  She is the kind of mom I aspire to be: totally positive, energetic, cool headed, and look fabulous doing it.  #jealousymuch?

So then we did a costume change into a tutu (which Courtney made).   I loved these Kate Spade glitter heels when Courtney wore them for her wedding and love them for this little princess.

Ryan is generally a pretty cool as a cucumber guy but his expressions with his little girl are priceless!

But on to the cake smash with a nautical birthday smash cake (which Courtney made).

It was so good Ellsworth got in on the action.  Um, perfection.

Don’t worry about missing this family too much.  You’ll see more when I share wee Miles’ newborn pictures!

Philadelphia Newborn Photographer | Jack
It is always pretty great spending a few hours with a newborn.  The parents are seeing stars, both from the overwhelming “whoa” of now having this little creature that is all theirs and the mind-numbing lack of sleep. Jeff and Vanessa brought me little Jack.  At just 8 days old, he was completely attentive to his mommy.  He even cracked a smile or two for us. With time, we got ourselves a sweet, sleepy baby who just curled up for us. His teeny baby details were beyond adorable. Tell me this swirl of hair isn’t swoon-worthy. Vanessa and Jeff will eventually leave the Northeast for homebase back in Texas.  Until ...

[what to wear] family sessions
Stumped, huh? How on earth do you reconcile all of those personalities into pleasing pictures? Well, it's not so hard.Sometime in the 90s it was decided that people should all wear white shirts and jeans or khakis for family pictures. Set yourself free from that idea right now! You don't want to dress all in the same exact outfit and look like the Von Trapp family or a soccer team. You're each unique individuals so wouldn't you want that to come out in your pictures? You want to go for complimentary, not mirror, looks. Here are some tips:* Take the location and season into account. That sundress may be cute as can be but it's just not g ...

Hallowell family session at Ocean City, Maryland
Meet Jenn, Brad, Jenna, and Emily! They're a spunky bunch I had the pure pleasure of photographing down at Ocean City, Maryland just the other week.Jenn and I had been working on arranging this session forever and it finally all came together on one of the last weekends of the summer and the weather was just perfect. A great big "take that!" to the rain that would have ruined what we originally had lined up for the next day.Jenna and Emily were perfectly sunkissed. I guess that's what happens when you actually get to live at the beach. How lucky! Now while you're sipping your hot cider in 50 degree weather, come to the beach with us and re ...
