I’m pretty sure I’m one of the 5 people in the world who doesn’t loooooove fall. I enjoy apple cider, pumpkin carving, and the amazing colors in this area but I know that fall is just a few short weeks away from being winter. Winter means frozen fingers and toes, layers that make me look stay-puft, runny noses, bleak landscapes, and a general regional attitude of “I’m sick and cold and miserable so stay away from me.”
So as much as I would like to enjoy this season, I just can’t fully give in because I know how bad it will be all too soon. In this area it seems we get a few glorious days of fall before we all have to break out our parkas and fuss faces.
I will try to indulge in those blissful, colorful days but it’s hard. I’m pretty sure the tree at our new house intuited this about me and so it’s trying to make me feel better about the whole thing. You see, so far it’s the only one of the street to burst into an incredible fiery mess or reds, oranges, and yellows. I am happy to look out my front door or drive up the street and see this glorious tree beaming just for me.

“Bittersweet October. The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter.”
