Amy and Zach approached me to do their engagement session a little bit unconventionally. They wanted to be in their wedding clothes and do it at their wedding venue. This way they could spend more time enjoying their wedding on the day of. Pretty genius if you ask me.
And so it was that Amy’s hair, makeup, and bouquet trials were all done on the same day a month before the wedding on a beautiful day at Morris Arboretum.
Amy and Zach met 4 years ago online. Clearly these two are already smart individuals. Their first date was to a place serving pop tarts and burgers because, as Amy puts it, she has the palette of a toddler.
Zach was working a brutal job in 70-90 hour weeks. Amy would bring him baked goods and encourage him to sleep.
Zach went on to leave that job and become an award winning mixologist (see wedding favor!).
The two are irreverent, snarky, and move together seamlessly as a team. It’s a beautiful thing.
Zach proposed to Amy on Valentine’s Day. He figured it was so cliché that she wouldn’t see it coming. After a long and tiring day at work, he came home around midnight and suggested they swap v-day gifts. He gave her a card with a lot of love, pop tarts from their first date, and he was down on one knee. She hadn’t seen it coming.
They say that they really bring out the best in each other. Not that they were necessarily jerks before but that they work towards their best selves because of and for the other person. It’s a kindness and mellowness that they cultivate in one another.
This lovely brick area called Baxter Memorial was to be their ceremony location on the wedding day.
I’m pretty happy that we took the engagement pictures when we did since their wedding day brought a little bit of bad weather with it. Check it out here!
