Alexa knew she wanted a country boy. Enter Donny, a guy who grew up on a farm and still has pedicure responsibilities for the goats.
The met online (hooray!) last year and the connection was clear. Their first date was after a shift of hers that ended at 11:45pm. They closed down the restaurant and talked until 2:30am. Conversation was effortless.
He made her laugh on that night in June and he makes her laugh now. We met up at Longwood Gardens for their engagement photography session. Alexa, being the the nontraditionalist that she is, didn’t want Longwood for its impeccable hand-raised flowers. She wanted to use the other parts of Longwood – the fields and greenery. I have been to Longwood Gardens umpteen times and didn’t even know these parts existed! So off we went!
It was pretty hot that day but soooo worth it for these clouds and sunshine! They were such troopers, especially Donny in all black. The heat doesn’t really bother him (he’s a country boy, remember). Alexa, however, is more of a princess. She’s not keen on the extremes of either end of the spectrum. I’m so proud of her for rocking it in that denim jacket, long curly hair (yay!), and that awesome mint tulle frock!
Donny had planned the original proposal for New York while ice skating but that terrible February storm messed up his plans. Instead, he went local. Alexa and her mom were eating at Elizabeth’s Pizza when Donny strode up with wine and asked for her hand in marriage.
They are so smitten with each other.
Love it, love it! These two will be married next May in Delaware and I can’t wait to see what funky stuff they have planned!
Young Melanie: What do you want to be married to me for, anyhow?
Young Jake: So I can kiss you anytime I want.
