Happy [belated] Mother’s Day!

Personal

I didn’t post on Mother’s Day because I was in Scotland. Even better, I was in Scotland with my mom on Mother’s Day. The death of my uncle didn’t make the circumstances ideal, but I was glad to see her and some of the family. My family is a bit… quirky. I suppose when the family has 12 children (Scottish and Catholic, go figure) there is bound to be a degree of peculiarity. Some are on speaking terms, some aren’t. There is giving and taking and laughter and frustration. It was so good to spend an evening together. Conversations ranged from the macabre to general catching up to scandalous but it felt quite us – no holds barred, no sugar coating, no polite conversation because there was a newcomer in the room (sorry, Andy). And though we left when the conversation turned to S&M (again, sorry, Andy), I loved it. It’s who we are and we’re fun and hilarious and loving and strange and certainly dysfunctional but we’re a family.

I gave my mom a woolen tartan scarf for Mother’s Day. It was the Lindsay tartan, not due to my (completely substantiated) vanity but because Lindsay is my grandmother’s maiden name and my namesake. And it’s actually a pretty tartan.

So this post is late and I’m okay with that. Happy Mother’s Day to my wonderful and beautiful mum and to all of those other mommies out there too!

In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lion
I don't know how far reaching it was, but last Sunday's weather here in Narberth was spectacular! I heard that it reached into Philly, Drexel Hill, Havertown, Moorestown, and parts of New Jersey.I had taken Emma out for a walk and couldn't help but notice that the sky was this crazy peach and smokey blue. I came home and switched out Emma for my camera to photograph it. The sky really did look smokey. The clouds were insane depending on which direction you looked. This was the view from by back porch. Not five minutes after returning, we heard this quick spattering on the roof. Emma and I ran to the window to see hail coming down and pingi ...

Thanksgiving at Hidden Villa Farm
I have no doubt that I was in good company yesterday: absolutely stuffed!I went to Hidden Villa Farm with Coye and Julie to spend Thanksgiving with Andrew, Julia, Becca, and Lorena. We had a fabulous evening of fantastic food, frisbeeing, farm animals, and conversation (sorry, just couldn't keep the alliteration going). Here's a taste of yesterday! With the amount of food we brought, you'd think we were feeding an army. I'll just try to list the made-from-scratch dishes we had for seven people: brie/blue cheese and crackers, deviled eggs, spinach artichoke dip, turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, green beans with lemon vina ...
