Happy birthday to me! ⋆ Lindsay Docherty Photography

Happy birthday to me!

Personal

BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

Mine, to be precise. It’s 11am and I’m parched and dehydrated from my party last night. Don’t confuse this for the post-party hangovers of my 20s that resulted from plenty of booze and uncomfortable shoes. This feeling is the result of an overabundance of salt from my CHEESE PARTY. Oh yes.

I am beyond proud of my friends who contributed about 18 different kinds of delicious lactose products. Here are some of the winners: a bright green pesto gouda, cinnamon asiago, mango stilton, a Dutch gouda that was special ordered by my friend Neil across the pond, a mustard seed cheddar called Red Dragon, bucheron, cracked pepper Polly-O string cheese, gruyere, a robiola that had divided appreciation, Armenian mozzarella string cheese, and so so sooooo many more. It was a dairy lover’s dream. There was also a crazy assortment of accoutrements: homemade orange honey, apples, dried figs, walnuts, crackers out the wazoo, 85% dark chocolate, raspberries, jams, breads, and fruits.

My fridge is now fully stocked for a month of grilled cheeses, omelets, quiches, and whatever else I can mix together with my fromage.

And because I have the Oh, snap! Photo Studio at my disposal, I can show you some of what went down!

How is it October already?! I can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by. This month is officially the busiest month I’ve ever had. There are so many incredible weddings that you’ll see splashed across the blog soon. And if you know someone getting married in 2012, tell them to get going because I’m already halfway to my wedding limit for next year. Crazy, right?!In honor of this fabulous month devoted to baseball, fall colors, and All Hallows’ Eve, I’m giving you some digital candy (if you come by my place I’m happy to give you real candy too, but I’ll expect a trick). Candy corn gets a bad rap. Granted, it tastes just like a bun ...

Cooking with Lindsay
Every now and then my partner and I decide to celebrate a certain food for the month. We usually forget about it but when we remember, it's a lot of fun. In an effort to expand our palettes, we try to make different dishes with the food and experiment with different types. In the past we've had a months devoted to mangoes, hummus, grapefruit, sweet potatoes, spinach, cantaloupe, watermelon, and kiwi. Here are some pictures from previous months. This month is pear month. I purchased eight varieties of pears for us to sample and decide on our favorites. Who knew that there were even eight varieties of pears in the first place?(For those who ...

My Grandfather, the Reverend George MacPherson Docherty
I learned on Saturday of the passing of my paternal grandfather, the Rev. George M. Docherty. He was a great man who raised 5 children and witnessed the death of two, my own father being one of them.He was also the man behind the controversial addition of "Under God" in the pledge of allegiance. A simple search of "George Docherty" will yield plenty of information about how a Scotsman came to America and was the influential minister to President Eisenhower at the famous New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC.He was 97 when he died on Thanksgiving in his home in Pennsylvania. There will be a memorial service for him on December ...
