Personal

2012 is going to be big. Really big. Freaking huge!

I moved to Philadelphia just 3 years ago and I’ll admit that showing up in December 2008 wasn’t the easiest pill to swallow when re-starting a business in a brand new area (remember that recession that hit in late ’08?). In 2009 I learned about the wedding culture in this area (trust me, there are definite differences between Philly and San Francisco) and started to figure out what was what around here. Things took off after that and now I’m busier than I’ve ever been. I’ve had some of the most incredible couples on the planet. I’ve seen weddings that have blown me away, made me cry (in the best possible way), made my heart melt, made me laugh til my stomach hurt, and simply made me say “awwww…”. And I’m pretty sure all of those things will happen again and again in 2012. I’m so thankful to everyone who has helped me since I showed up here – the venues and vendors who trust me and recommend me to their couples, the old friends and family who remind everyone that they know this awesome photographer named Lindsay, the new friends who tell me that they recognize my name and logo and love my work, and my awe-inspiring couples who show me so much love it makes me blush.

Thank you all for welcoming me back to my old home. This is home.

I look forward to 2012 with bright eyes and a bushy tail. I’m mostly booked up for the year and can tell that it’s going to be out of this world!

With this New Year I’m giving you soap! Scrub away any doubts, insecurities, and issues from 2011 and start fresh!

Try, Try to forget what’s in the past
Tomorrow is here

Love, Orange sky above lighting your way
There’s nothing to fear

Birds singing a song
Old paint is peeling
This is that fresh
That fresh feeling

The summer? Bah! That was nothing compared to what’s coming this fall. Hold on to your hats because there is a world of Lindsay Docherty Photography coming at you over the next few months. My mind is spinning and it’s hardly begun yet. This is my last totally wedding/engagement session - free weekend til December (yes, December!) so I’m taking a wee trip. I’ll be incommunicado til Wednesday because I’ll be paddling down the Delaware River for the next few days. “My, Lindsay, I had no idea you kayaked,” you say. Well, that’s because I haven’t. It will certainly be an adventure and will likely hurt. But I’m one tough cookie. I am und ...

Goodbye, DOMA!
Today is an extraordinary day for the United States. This morning, the Supreme Court struck down keys parts of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and declared that same-sex couples who are legally married deserve equal rights to the hundreds of benefits under federal law that go to all other married couples.I keep my political opinions to myself when it comes to this blog but I feel that such a monumental ruling on LOVE has a special place here.My life is surrounded by love and weddings and it’s incredible. That we could even think of denying rights to gay couples is an atrocity. 12 states and DC offer marriages for all committed couples; ...

Philadelphia Gay Pride Parade 2014
Philadelphia Gay Pride Parade and Festival 2014
Yesterday marked the first Gay Pride Parade and Festival in Philadelphia since gay marriage became legal in Pennsylvania just last month.  The parade, which started in the Gayborhood and wound its way down to Penn’s Landing, drew the largest crowds yet.  There were rainbows everywhere.  The Village People headlined the show at Penn’s Landing, several couples married at Independence Hall, and there were community-based LGBTQ booths (hi HRC friends!) as far as the eye could see down by the river. Here are just a few pictures I snapped while celebrating yesterday. As much fun as it was to see the revelry, I look f ...
