Moving Forward

Personal

Bad, blogger, bad!

Oh my, so I have a lot of make up work to do. I promise that I have been thinking of you but the last few months have been crazy, to say the least. Here’s a brief rundown of LDP news…

Moved across the country! I am now settled into my new home in Narberth, PA which is right outside of Philadelphia. I grew up around here on the Main Line and am looking forward to getting reconnected with old friends and eating water ice again.

Website update. My site (www.lindsaydocherty.com) now has two sites within: weddings and lifestyle. It was time to expand and build a separate site for weddings. The lifestyle site is still dedicated to the portrait wing of LDP.

ImagingUSA. Every year in January the Professional Photographers of America puts on a big convention and expo. This year it was in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona and hosted the incredible Anne Geddes as the keynote speaker. I went, I learned, I had fun, I met up with old friends and new.

Bridal Shows. I have two wedding fairs coming up in February and I’ve been putting a ton of time into preparing for them. You should definitely come out if you’re in the market for wedding professionals in the Philly area. The first show is tomorrow (February 8th) from noon to 4pm at Perelman Quad on Penn’s campus. The second is on February 22nd at the Willow Grove Mall from 11am to 6pm. There might just be a bonus for couples who book after seeing me at the show! Go here for more information.

Technology. Who can really stay away from Facebook? Not I. Lindsay Docherty Photography now has its own Facebook page and you can (and should!) become a fan asap. There will be a few tidbits that get announced on my Facebook page before they’re out anywhere else so you really don’t want to miss out! I’m also now updating my Twitter account regularly so you can keep tabs on your favorite photographer and her exciting adventures through Twitter. How’s that for keeping you all in the know!

So I know I still have weddings, portrait sessions, and monthly desktop images to catch up on and you’ll be seeing those in the coming weeks. See you soon!

Goodbye, DOMA!
Today is an extraordinary day for the United States. This morning, the Supreme Court struck down keys parts of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and declared that same-sex couples who are legally married deserve equal rights to the hundreds of benefits under federal law that go to all other married couples.I keep my political opinions to myself when it comes to this blog but I feel that such a monumental ruling on LOVE has a special place here.My life is surrounded by love and weddings and it’s incredible. That we could even think of denying rights to gay couples is an atrocity. 12 states and DC offer marriages for all committed couples; ...

Fathers
About this time last year I learned how to develop film and print my own images in the darkroom. I wanted to give my first finished picture to my dad for his birthday on June 23rd. I agonized over which image to choose. I finally decided on this iris and spent weeks perfecting my chemical baths, lights, and dodging and burning to create a portrait I was proud to give him.He was the one who gave me my first camera and encouraged my love of photography. He has been proud of me every step of the way through all trials and tribulations.I have just experienced my first Father's Day without my father. He passed away July 7th, 2006 from lung can ...

My Grandfather, the Reverend George MacPherson Docherty
I learned on Saturday of the passing of my paternal grandfather, the Rev. George M. Docherty. He was a great man who raised 5 children and witnessed the death of two, my own father being one of them.He was also the man behind the controversial addition of "Under God" in the pledge of allegiance. A simple search of "George Docherty" will yield plenty of information about how a Scotsman came to America and was the influential minister to President Eisenhower at the famous New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC.He was 97 when he died on Thanksgiving in his home in Pennsylvania. There will be a memorial service for him on December ...
