My meeting with Angie and Jim was a long time coming. They live in Georgia so I had been meeting and talking a lot with Angie’s mother and having group Skype chats so it was with much anticipation to actually see these two in the flesh. It was sooo worth it.
They are known as “the athletic couple”. Don’t let the pink and heels fool you; I was told early on that Angie is “no frou frou girl”. She plays soccer and they bike and have done several mudruns together. They are fit and sporty and absolutely adorable. They met at work. The story goes that Jim actually left the job so that he could ask Angela out. He didn’t want to have to face her if she turned him down.
We shared a pretty eventful engagement session in Old City. We started out at the historic and colorful Elfreth’s Alley.
We wandered around a little as the skies got a little darker.
They wanted to get some Philly feel so we included some of the classic Ben Franklin Bridge in the shoot.
They were only in town for a few days and we had changed the date of the shoot to avoid the rain. To say that the clouds began to look ominous would be an understatement.
We made it back to their car where they were going to do a quick change when the skies absolutely opened up on it. It was a total deluge! The standard session turned into an extended session as we quickly added on a plan B: 30th Street Station.
The proposal came on their one year anniversary. He took her to a famcy restaurant and then returned to her place so they could exchange gifts. She changed into comfy clothes. The deal was that they weren’t doing anything too big. She was smitten with the thoughtful stick family he got for her car that included their dog and two cats. She got him a sweater.
He then got down on one knee and popped the question. Angie, utterly shocked, curled up in fetal position and said, “you’re not serious!”. He was. He had asked her father two weeks earlier when he came up to PA for business. She eventually uncurled and said yes.
I get to see them again next June for what I know will be a spectacular wedding at Hotel DuPont.
