[venue] the Chestnut Club

Wedding

Every other month I get together with a large group of local wedding professionals to talk shop and see what everyone is up to.

This month we joined together at the Chestnut Club at Arcadia Theatre in Philadelphia. This is a fresh new venue in the city and you certainly will want to put it on your short list when considering locales. Located on the upper portion of the former 1915 Theatre Auditorium, this place has 7000 square feet of event space. It has kept so much of the original décor including the original proscenium arch and ceiling dome as well. It has great brick walls along the entrance and gathering areas and huge floor to ceiling windows overlooking Chestnut Street. They can arrange valet or discount parking and they welcome any licensed caterer (bonus!).

I loved the sheer, silvery swaths of fabric, candlelight, and it was so easy to see this venue transformed into just about anything. You’re not constrained by ugly carpet or horrid wallpaper – it really feels like an upscale blank canvas. Check it out and let me know what you think:

I can’t believe I forgot to mention that they have this gorgeous piano too.

The uplighting was created by Eventions Productions (see how it can make such a difference in a room?!).

We were also treated by Ilonka of Ilkona Floral Decorator to beautifully unique floral arrangements of zinnia, curly willow, and peacock feathers.

The shimmery table linens were from Select Event Rental.

Fleur de Lys Catering provided our tasty meal.

If you want more Chestnut Club and Lindsay Docherty Photography, come by on September 19th for Rock the Aisle Bridal Show at the Chestnut Club. I’ll be there. I’d love to photograph a wedding at this superb venue so give me a ring!

Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated.

I have started this blog post over about 5 times now because I can’t even form the words to describe this wedding. Stupendous? Magical? Utterly perfect? Take your pick; any of them will work. The sushi-loving, California couple were a delight, the weather was more than anyone could have asked for (a threat of rain turned to 0% precipitation that day), the venue is one of my all-time favorites (John James Audubon Center), and the details, oh the details...! Here is their chilly winter engagement session and here is their wedding! The peach and teal invitations and stationary suite were gorgeously coordinated throughout the day.Beautiful B ...

Philadelphia Wedding Photographer | Criminal Justice Building | Kerri + Dan
Kerri and Dan were to be married at Philadelphia City Hall that Tuesday. Not long before the wedding Kerri got some good news: a longtime friend of her mother’s and a judge was able to marry them across the street in the Criminal Justice Building. You may have been there for jury duty but I can assure you that the place feels so beautiful and romantic when it has a beautiful woman in a white dress there.Kerri looked incredible in her simple gown and awesome birdcage blusher.Dan was looking quite dapper as well.He was showing their son, Kie, where daddy worked.Their ceremony was very sweet, reading their own vows, with close friends and fami ...

Montgomery County Wedding Photographer | Quarry Hill Farm | Carla + Ben
I learned a new word at Carla and Ben’s wedding: schvitz. It’s a Yiddish verb meaning ‘sweat’ and we all did a lot of it on that 100+ heat index day. As Ben’s eternally happy sister proclaimed, “it’s in to be schvitzy”. As hot as it was, the wedding was beautiful! It was held at up and coming Quarry Hill Farm in Harleysville, PA and was everything Carla had imagined: fresh, organic, local, and spectacular! As a couple who met while gardening, there couldn’t have been a more perfect place. The couple looked great while they were prepping themselves to see each other that day.We were able to spend a little bit of time walking arou ...
