Happy birthday to me!

Personal

BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

Mine, to be precise. It’s 11am and I’m parched and dehydrated from my party last night. Don’t confuse this for the post-party hangovers of my 20s that resulted from plenty of booze and uncomfortable shoes. This feeling is the result of an overabundance of salt from my CHEESE PARTY. Oh yes.

cheese party

I am beyond proud of my friends who contributed about 18 different kinds of delicious lactose products. Here are some of the winners: a bright green pesto gouda, cinnamon asiago, mango stilton, a Dutch gouda that was special ordered by my friend Neil across the pond, a mustard seed cheddar called Red Dragon, bucheron, cracked pepper Polly-O string cheese, gruyere, a robiola that had divided appreciation, Armenian mozzarella string cheese, and so so sooooo many more. It was a dairy lover’s dream. There was also a crazy assortment of accoutrements: homemade orange honey, apples, dried figs, walnuts, crackers out the wazoo, 85% dark chocolate, raspberries, jams, breads, and fruits.

My fridge is now fully stocked for a month of grilled cheeses, omelets, quiches, and whatever else I can mix together with my fromage.

And because I have the Oh, snap! Photo Studio at my disposal, I can show you some of what went down!

Jack Attack meetup
Emma and I went to a Jack Russell Terrier meetup today and had so much fun. There are pug and boxer and chihuahua and all sorts of other dog meetups so I'm surprised it took this long to get one together.Today was their second get-together. They're held at Mountain Lake Park in San Francisco at 4pm every other Saturday. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make most of them due to a busy wedding season, but you can bet Emma and I will be there on my free days. If you have a Jack, or really any kind of dog, you should definitely show up next time. The people are so friendly and welcoming and so are the pooches (especially Bacon!).Here are so ...

Do Something Awesome Sunday!
Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday…  Did you know about the Sunday event that combines all of them?  Yes, Donate-to-charity-via-a-small-business-through-the-magic-of-your-computer-and-get-an-awesome-deal-in-the-process Sunday!  Catchy, huh?You may know that I've been doing a whole lot of running lately to ramp up for my first full marathon in January in Florida (in one week I'll be running a half marathon in Las Vegas).  You may have also seen that I'm doing it in part to raise money for the fight against multiple sclerosis, a cause very near and dear to my heart.  I figured that there's no better way ...

Wedding dress shopping in NYC
Liz, my best friend, came into town last week from Chicago and we had a fun-filled trip of being truly girly. We bought makeup, she gave me an introduction on how to actually use it, and we went to New York City to really indulge in being a bride: dress shopping. I had the day planned with a whirlwind trip to three bridal salons, dinner, and a show on Broadway (btw, Matilda was awesome!). We started at Lovely, a place that lives up to its name. The walls were decked out in Elizabeth Messina prints, big chalkboards, beautiful windows, and softness. It was intimate, comfortable, and well, lovely. Jacqueline walked me through aisles of tull ...
