Alexa loooooves herself some bling and she’s not afraid to show it. She’s a total girly girl and she found herself a country guy – their complimentary personalities were immediately obvious at their Longwood Gardens engagement session last year when she showed up in frills and he in jeans.
Their wedding day was fantastic. The ladies prepped at Alexa’s family’s house in Newark. There were plenty of personal flourishes like her grandmother’s handkerchief and prayer book (used as her ring pillow) and her special brooch bouquet (with an extra brooch given to her by her mother from her travels).
And of course the dress! This was the third one she tried on and it was love! Donny surprised Alexa with a beautiful tennis bracelet as a wedding gift.
Alexa’s father hadn’t seen the dress before that day.
At the church, Alexa and Donny shared a moment before the ceremony without seeing each other.
The ceremony was held at Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green in New Castle, Delaware. It’s a beautiful chapel with truly lovely grounds. The bridesmaids, clad in pink cocktail length peplum dresses, shielded Alexa from the windows of the chapel with umbrellas on her way in.
I love the church’s old marriage registry that all couples still sign.
Alexa and Donny walked out to church bells, bubbles, and a vintage 1929 Model A Phaeton.
We might have played around with the groomsmen a bit before heading off.
Their reception was Great Gatsby themed. There were prohibition whiskey favors, hats for the gentlemen, pearls for the ladies, swanky feathers, and, of course, plenty of sparkle!
Alexa and Donny danced their first dance to “All of Me” by John Legend.
The evening was a blast! Both sets of parents danced to their wedding songs, there was an anniversary dance (the winning couple married 50! years), bouquet and garter tosses, and a cake smash competition which Donny soundly lost. Their priest was out on the dancefloor, shots were flowing, and the place was bumpin!
Alexa and Donny’s day was so much fun. With these two, there was no other way the day could have gone!
‘Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I’ll give my all to you
You’re my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I’m winning
‘Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh
~ John Legend, “All of Me”
