Extended Engagement Session in Maryland: Alyssa + Kyle

Engagement

He calls her “Princess” and I’m sure she calls him something like “Snuggle Bunny Boo” but he wouldn’t dish. We had a very full day of shooting around Maryland for Alyssa and Kyle’s extended engagement session. It was torture to not overload the blog with pictures from it!

I’ll let them give you all the details, but they met at a friend’s party while at Penn State together. Forget dinner and movies – their very first date was a the ice skating rink at Penn’s Landing where they were witness to a proposal right there on the ice. Kyle’s proposal to Alyssa was at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse where he slipped the maître d’ the ring and it arrived later on a platter where Kyle dropped to one knee.

They moved around a bit and eventually ended up in Bel Air, Maryland together. We started the session in the complex where they live. You’d never know that were surrounded by cars on all sides, would you?

We jetted down to the adorable downtown Havre de Grace. This historic little town at the mouth of the Susquehanna River was such a great idea. There were so many little nooks and crannies, bright walls, and people watching going on. I learned that they love going camping, drinking wine, and playing board games. Though I don’t think they meant that they do all three at once, it sounds like a fantastic idea to me.

Kyle had driven his motorcycle down so we could catch a few shots of them with the bike.

We took a quick trip to Bomboy’s for ice cream. I absolutely love detours like this and these pictures were so much fun! Mucho thanks to Kyle for getting me a mint chocolate chip!

We were able to play in golden hour while at the boardwalk that runs along the Millard J. Tydings Memorial Park from the Concord Point Lighthouse to the City Yacht Basin there. The place was gorgeous and the temperatures dropped a few degrees to make the rest of the session not so sweltering.

Alyssa and Kyle, thanks so much for showing me around your hood! I can’t wait to see what you two do with the Hotel du Pont in the spring!

Carrie and Matt were my sweet little lovebirds of last year who came to me for their blisteringly hot Philly engagement session around Reading Terminal Market last year before they were off on their destination wedding in California. I so pleased as punch to see them again and find out how hardened they were after their first year of marriage. As it turns out, not at all. I had hoped the newest family member, Pierogie von Schnitzelhund, would be joining us but I believe he was needed for urgent foreign affairs. I feel lucky that we even got to do this session. It was originally scheduled for the Monday of Superstorm Sandy and I had to co ...

Lisa + Mike’s Engagement Session around Rittenhouse Square
Lisa and Mike spent Labor Day weekend buying appliances for their new place and wandering around Rittenhouse Square for their engagement session with me. Their e-session is particularly special because it chronicles meaningful places from early in their courtship. We started by this dingy side street near the train tracks around the corner from their office. I think it's pretty beautiful despite the rust and litter. Then we headed on to where they met – Independence Blue Cross. They worked in different departments but one particular job made their paths cross…We scoped out La Colombe, the first place they had coffee together. It must be great ...

Philadelphia Engagement Photographer | Drexel University | Abby + Ryan
You see some people gazing at each other and you can tell that they’re still in the total puppydog phase. You know what I’m talking about – the smittenness that happens in the first few months or year of dating. The thing is, sometimes I see the same adoration in my couples during the engagement session after they’ve known each other for, say, 5.5 years. I saw this with Abby and Ryan. These two met at a party while they were at school at Drexel University. They played a game of ping pong (which Abby won!) and I suppose it’s been googly eyes ever since. We did their engagement session at the location of their courtship: Drexel’s campus. You k ...
