Personal

I love April. Sure, there may be a few days of surprises (I don’t think I’ll ever forget Carolyn and Jeremy’s torrential downpour wedding) but we’re finally over this lion/lamb business and will most assuredly see real spring soon.

Do you hear that? Those are birds chirping as I’m typing this. The sun is up in the mornings again. I no longer need to wear 10 layers to go outside. There are buds on everything. The crocuses came up a few weeks ago and I’m seeing daffodils everywhere.

For someone who despises the cold, this is my happy time. The year is turning around and the earth is opening up. I can run outside, I can put away my sweaters, and I can start waking up from this dreary hibernation that takes over in the dark winter months.

As for the upcoming Racherty (Rachlin + Docherty) nuptials, I can finally sympathize with my couples going through wedding planning. This stuff is so stressful! We’ve decided on a country and a general month but not much more. The plan is a super small wedding next July in Italy. How awesome is that?! Destination wedding planning means letting go of control so I’ll likely be updating you every month on my breathing techniques and pasta options that I won’t be able to taste before the big day. Regardless, we’re psyched!

Every month, I feature new images for download for you to use as your Facebook cover photo. I resisted the urge to post pictures of the millions of wedding magazines I have around. Click to download these images and see them at their full size and resolution.

Please note these images are made available for personal use only.

November Desktop Images
This is the time for colors in this area. Just look out your window. This is why friends and family think I’m a ghost this time of year. It’s the busiest part of the year for me because the foliage is so vibrant that everyone wants a piece of it! My October dates booked up lickity split and then November did too when I had to let people know October was closed. This means that there are still a ton of sessions and weddings coming up on the blog before the end of the year. And we’re talking some fantastic imagery too! Indoor weddings, outdoor weddings, city hall weddings, boudoir sessions, and engagement sessions like you wouldn’t belie ...

My Grandfather, the Reverend George MacPherson Docherty
I learned on Saturday of the passing of my paternal grandfather, the Rev. George M. Docherty. He was a great man who raised 5 children and witnessed the death of two, my own father being one of them.He was also the man behind the controversial addition of "Under God" in the pledge of allegiance. A simple search of "George Docherty" will yield plenty of information about how a Scotsman came to America and was the influential minister to President Eisenhower at the famous New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC.He was 97 when he died on Thanksgiving in his home in Pennsylvania. There will be a memorial service for him on December ...

Gratitude
I hope you and yours are celebrating and giving thanks with friends, family, and a monstrous feast. I know I am. Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.~ Melody Beattie
