Family

Who is 8 months pregnant and still goes to the gym at least three times a week? Deena, that’s who. That is why she still fits into her jeans (albeit unbuttoned), still wears her wedding ring, and still looks absolutely amazing. I’m in awe. I was so happy to spend some time with her and Drew at their house in Conshohocken to get maternity pictures and revel in this exciting time for them.

This is their first little one. She’s a girl due in early May and will be named Sadie Lola. I can’t wait to meet her!

Their purple nursery is pretty much all ready. It’s jam packed with all kinds of stuff from friends and family – clothes from newborn to toddlerhood. They haven’t really bought a single scrap of clothing for the wee one. Apparently that happens.

It was great to have Drew there so that I could get images of the two just-about-to-be parents. It’s a kind of love that you don’t see during engagement sessions, weddings, or later family sessions. There is something very, very special about a couple on the verge of their first baby. There’s a comfort, excitement, nervousness, and caring that made me feel lucky to be in their presence and capturing this.

Their other babies, Kiley, Chester, and Darby have already been well integrated into the family. Deena is huge in the animal rescue scene. If you’re looking to adopt a new fur baby (especially Pits), let me know and I’ll put you in touch with her. She’s often doing work with ACCT Philly.

Drew is highly involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and heads up a big fundraiser every year.

I can’t wait to see them as parents. They are going to be incredible. This is a wonderful family and I feel lucky to consider them friends.

[what to wear] family sessions
Stumped, huh? How on earth do you reconcile all of those personalities into pleasing pictures? Well, it's not so hard.Sometime in the 90s it was decided that people should all wear white shirts and jeans or khakis for family pictures. Set yourself free from that idea right now! You don't want to dress all in the same exact outfit and look like the Von Trapp family or a soccer team. You're each unique individuals so wouldn't you want that to come out in your pictures? You want to go for complimentary, not mirror, looks. Here are some tips:* Take the location and season into account. That sundress may be cute as can be but it's just not g ...

In my life before portrait and wedding photography, I was in graduate school for sociology. In undergrad, I didn't know what opportunities there were for sociology majors. I just loved the subject matter and had some incredible professors that I never put much thought into what would happen after graduation. I learned that the main route for sociology majors who are really into sociology is graduate school so you can make more sociologists. This was prefect as I loved being in the classroom and I was pretty good at being a student (graduated magna cum laude and a member of Phi Beta Kappa). My shtick was family and gender roles and social psy ...
