The Photographer’s Curse

Uncategorized

On the eve of Halloween, I find it fitting that my focus be on some truly scary pictures. You see, I am a photographer. I take pictures of people and do what I can to make them look their best. I’ve had the great fortune to photograph very attractive people so my job has been pretty easy. But every now and I have a tough customer. No matter what I do, this client just never looks right. Not flattering, not genuine, not good.

This client is me.

And herein lies the Photographer’s Curse. No picture of the photographer ever looks good to the photographer. Try as I might, I just don’t like em. Maybe I just need a new face. Maybe I just need a really good photographer of my very own.

I wanted a new picture for my website. I tried and tried and even enlisted Emma the dog to help matters. In the end, I conceded to the Photographer’s Curse and just decided to make a collage of my attempts.

My portraits are more about me than they are about the people I photograph. ~Richard Avedon

Senior Ambassador Shoot at Chrissy Field
Allow me to introduce my newest Senior Ambassador, Gabby. This petite high school senior comes from Granada High School in Livermore. We had originally planned to shoot at Baker Beach, where I had shot Felicia, but the horrible oil spill made practically every beach inaccessible (besides, people in big yellow HAZMAT suits just don't look good in the background of pictures). We met up and headed over to Fort Point first to make use of the moody, grungy feel of the old military fort. I don't often get to shoot here but I really love it when I do. Fort Point is a four story brick donut of a structure with wonderful archways and hallways and ...

Bad Kitten Philadelphia Improv Comedy Group
Philadelphia Talent Photographer | Bad Kitten Improv Comedy Group
Philly is the fastest growing improv comedy scene in the country.  You immediately think Chicago or LA or NYC for improv but you can likely find a show any day of the week in the City of Brotherly Love. I got to play with a Bad Kitten for a stupidly fun photoshoot in Old City.  Bad Kitten is a group of 7 (Sam Abrams, Neil Bardhan, Ryan Birchmeier, Steve Holland, Megan Marron, Dan Reed, Lauren Rivera) who all met while taking classes at Philly Improv Theater. Their first show is with The Brewery this Friday at 7pm at The ArtsParlor (1170 Broad St.).  With a $5 and BYOB, I strongly recommend you head out for it.  I’ve seen them perfor ...
